Is Your Ad a Sheep or a Lion?

Have you ever wondered why most ads on the internet
fail miserably to get the job done? It's frustrating,
isn't it? You pay your money, place your ad and the
result is ... underwhelming.

Why? Why do SO many ads fail to get the response we
hope they will get?

The answer lies in an old Arab proverb. The proverb
says ...

"An army of sheep led by a lion would defeat an army of
lions led by a sheep."

When it comes to doing business online, we can
translate that proverb this way ...

"It is better to have 100 highly qualified visitors to
your site than 1000 visitors who got there by mistake
or misdirection from a misleading ad"

I'm willing to bet that you are not satisfied with your
results online right now. I'm willing to bet that your
ads are not working well, and that you are not making
the money you hoped online.

And I'm willing to bet that it's not your fault - that
no one ever told you how to write a truly great ad.

So let's fix that right now.

The simple fact is - most ads are sheep. They are weak
and afraid and they don't get results. They never
inspire the reader to take action. They never lead.

They sound so much like all the other ads that the
people who read them just say to themselves "yep -
heard that all before" and click away.

But it does NOT have to be this way. Your ads can
capture attention and cause the visitors you want to
come to your website IF you know how to add real
selling power to them.

So how can you stop using "sheep" ads and start using
"lion" ads?

I believe there are two ways that you can add power to
almost any ad you are using now or to create new and
better ads than you use now.

STEP 1 - REALIZE WHY ADS EXIST

The ONLY purpose of the ad is to get the right kind of
click... period.

If people click, you might make money.

If they do not click, you have no chance to make money.
It's really as simple as that.

So what does "the right kind of click" mean? It means
getting the RIGHT people to come to your site.

* Not tire kickers.
* Not "lookie Lous".
* Not time wasters with questions who never take action.

What you want is REAL prospects that know what you do
and are genuinely interested in learning more.

This fact, that the job of the ad is to get the right
kind of click, has led to two great misunderstandings.

MISUNDERSTANDING 1 - The first misunderstanding is that
we should do anything we can do to get the click.

Totally wrong, because tricking people into visiting
your site will not result in sales. Getting everyone to
your site is not the goal - getting buyers to your site
is the goal.

MISUNDERSTANDING 2 - The second misunderstanding is
that all clicks are equal.

Totally wrong, because not all clicks are created
equal. In fact, the ONLY clicks that matter are from
people who want, or need, what you offer and can take
action.

Think about that statement for a bit, because it's
important. They must want or need what you offer. If
they do not, then everyone is just wasting time.

They must be able to take action. Wanting, or even
needing, what you offer means nothing if they fail to
take action once they arrive at your site.

Consider these scenarios.

In scenario one you run a generic ad, one so timid that
the reader really can't tell what you are selling.

Here is a sample of such an ad.

"Ever want to fire your boss and start your own
profitable business from home? Our proven process means
that now anyone can make a small fortune working from
home!"

This is a "sheep" ad that will generate clicks but will
fail to make sales. I can tell because I've written
thousands of ads.

What you will get from this ad is visitors who are in a
dream-world. Sure, they would love to fire their
stinking boss, but are they going to take action?

I suppose you could go for these types of clicks and
hope that your website is so appealing that it
convinces them but, candidly, that won't work.

By the way, this is the most common model being used
online. Get EVERYONE you can to your site and hope that
your website does the selling.

If you are still reading this article I suspect you
know that this model does not work.

Now scenario two is where you run a "lion" ad; one that
is bold and unafraid and actually qualifies the
prospect BEFORE the click.

Here is an example of that ad.

"Are you tired of the rat race and ready to make a
massive income working for yourself at home?

A lot of people feel that way but few are willing to do
what it takes to make the big bucks.

Do you have what it takes?

Are you the type of person who will "go for it" once
they see what they want?

If you are then our proven system will show you the
step-by-step process to follow so that you never have
to work for anyone else again!

If you think you have what it takes you can prove it
right now by using this link to get more information.

Today could be the best day of your life IF you are
bold enough to act.

Will you take control of your future today?

Only YOU can decide!

Use this link now and let's get started!"

Now this is a "lion" ad that will get fewer clicks but
make many more sales. The reason is simple. This ad has
qualified the prospect.

If they click the ad they have accepted your challenge
to get more information and change their lives. And
that is exactly the mindset you want them to have when
they visit your site.

Remember this - your ad has one job ... qualify the
prospect and, in so doing, set up the sale.

It is vitally important to understand the difference
between sending just any visitor to a site and sending
a pre-qualified visitor.

Yes, you want clicks but you want the RIGHT kind of
clicks... qualified prospects.

STEP 2 - ADD POWER TO YOUR ADS

Here are some ways to convert a weak "sheep" ad into a
bold "lion" ad.

Use a HEADLINE that sets the right tone. Let readers
know that this is NOT for everyone or for those who
will not take action but that massive rewards await
those who will take action.

Make a clear statement of what you really are OFFERing.
If you can't be proud of what you offer then find
something else to sell online. Tricking people might
work for a while but it's no way to build a business.
Be very clear about your offer.

Make QUALIFYING STATEMENTS so the reader can know that
they qualify for what you offer. In our example the
phrase "Are you tired of the rat race and ready to make
a massive income working for yourself at home?" is a
qualifying statement.

If someone is happy with their job then they would
quickly know that your offer is not for them.

Always be TRUTHFUL in your ads. This should go without
saying but often is not the case. If you have been
given misleading ads to use by your company please
don't use them. You will only hurt your reputation, and
reputation matters online.

Be clear about what the reader will gain (BENEFITS) if
they do take action.

In our example the phrase "If you are then our proven
system will show you the step-by-step process to follow
so that you never have to work for anyone else again!"
clearly states that they will be shown a proven system
IF they qualify.

ALWAYS include a *strong* CALL TO ACTION. There are
several calls to action in the "lion" ad above. Read it
again and see if you can spot them.

The bottom line to all of this is simple - you must
advertise if you want to make money online so your ads
might as well be as strong as they can be.

If you take a little time and make your ads "lions"
instead of "sheep" you will not only sell more (or get
more signups) but you will save advertising dollars as
well because YOUR ads will be the ones that work the
best.

And having ads that work, that REALLY work to make
sales happen, is a beautiful thing indeed!

These days, it seems like everyone wants to work
from home and make money on the Internet. But

Once you arrive and look things over, click the "CREATE YOUR BLOG NOW" arrow.



Next, you'll arrive at the "Create a Google Account" page. If you already have a Google account, click the "sign in first" link to login to your existing Google account.

Otherwise, complete the form on this page and then click the "Continue" arrow at the bottom of the page.

After you complete this page, you'll be taken to a "Name your blog" page where you'll need to enter a blog title and blog address that looks like this:



TIP: You can name your blog anything you want. It could simply be "Charles Kaluwasha's Blog or just something related to the them of your website. Be creative! But don't worry if you can't think of the best name yet... You can always change your blog name later if you want. :-)

TIP 2: For your blog address, I suggest using your first and last name combined OR the characters of your domain name without the .com, .net, .org, etc.

TIP 3: Ignore the "Advanced Setup" option for now. The advanced setup option allows you to add your blog files directly to your Host4Profit hosting account. I strongly advise you against using the advanced setup option at this time (unless you are already comfortable uploading files to your hosting account). Later, I'll show you how you can upload your blog to your hosting account if you want. But, for right now, let's just get your blog setup and running properly using Blogger's free hosting service.

Once you've added your blog name and address, click the "CONTINUE" arrow to move to the next step.

This will take you to the "Choose a template" page. This page allows you to choose a custom look for your blog...



Take a look at the designs available and select one by marking the selection circle inside the blog template image. You can easily change the template later, or even create your own custom template design once your blog is set up.

Once you've selected your blog template, click the "CONTINUE" arrow.

Congratulations! Your blog has been created!

That was easy enough, right?! ;-)

Now it's time to add some content to your blog...

First, click the "START POSTING" arrow!

Let's just start with a sample post so you get the feel for what blogging is like. You should now be at a page that has a blog editor on it that looks similar to this:

As you can see, there is a field to enter a post title and a body message for that post.

To get things started, you might type something like: "Welcome to my blog!" in the title field.

Then put your cursor in the larger message body field and type something like:

"I've just launched my new blog! Stay tuned...

Best regards,

... or whatever YOU want to say! ;-)

It might look something like this:

When you're happy with your post, click the "PUBLISH" button just below your post editor.

You'll see this message next:

Click the "in a new window" link to see your blog post open up inside a separate browser window.

Depending on what Blogger template you selected, your new blog post will look something like this:

I used the "Minima" template for this tutorial and you can see my actual test blog for this post here.

Do you see how easy that is? You just made your own new web page on the Internet! :-)

And if you added your domain name to your post, you made a link that points back to your own home page. This is important because the more links you get pointing back to your website home page, the more traffic you will get and money you will be able to make...

Now let's think about what a blog is again...

It could be a place simply to publish your thoughts... kind of like an online journal.

Or it could be a place to post news and information about your business.

Or it could be used as a promotional platform to drive traffic to your main website and products you are affiliated with.

Ultimately, the choice is yours.

No one has ever logged onto the Internet for the first time and
started pocketing dollars in a really short period of time. As
with all things in life, there is a learning curve.

SOME PERSONAL HISTORY

Just a few short years ago, I was a working stiff just like you.

One day, I bought and read a book called "Multiple Streams of
Income" by bestselling author, Robert Allen. Immediately, I
began my journey.

Every night after work and after my wife and children went to
sleep, I would get online and explore different ways of using the
Internet to make money.

In the two years that followed, I spent over $10,000 racking up
credit card debt buying eBooks, membership sites, special
reports, opt-in leads, and joining every "guru" recommended
business opportunity that flew into my email inbox.

I stayed up learning, working, and drinking coffee until 5:00 in
the morning, month after month filled with the hope of making
money online.

In my third year of working part-time to build a home based
income, I finally broke through and earned over $100,000 in just
twelve months from the Internet.

BECOME THE MASTER OF YOUR LEARNING CURVE

Research the lives of all of the "gurus." The one thing that
you will learn is that my own experience is not unique. Most of
the high earners on the Internet experienced a learning curve
very similar to my own.

Chances are that your curve will also be similar to mine, but it
is my hope that you can get to the top faster than even I did.
Three years was a long time to struggle, but every ounce of
struggle was worth the reward I have finally received.

In order to shorten your own learning curve, you must do a few
things differently than the rest of us did. You must become the
master of your learning curve.

THE SHORTEST DISTANCE BETWEEN TWO POINTS IS A STRAIGHT LINE

There is only one way to shorten the curve on the Internet:

You must plan to succeed!

Here is the deal. Most people put up a freebie website and select
a few affiliate programs to add to their website. Right out of
the gate, most people are running for the finish line without any
real plan in mind.

After a few short weeks, people begin to see the writing on the
wall that says, "This is going to be a long hard road."

People check their hit counters daily for six weeks before they
realize that getting traffic to their free site is going to be
tough.

At this point, they begin developing their first batch of
advertising. Then they spend countless months finding places to
show their advertisements for free. Some make an even more
drastic mistake by blowing thousands of hard earned dollars on
their new and untested ads.

These are the people who will learn the facts of life the hard
way.

In time, they will learn how to make their advertising work for
them, but most will earn very little money from their affiliate
programs.

At this point in the learning curve, most people throw up their
hands and walk away from their dreams in utter disgust. Instead
of a walking away point, this should have convinced the
struggling online entrepreneur that they were simply traveling
the wrong road.

YOU MUST PLAN TO SUCCEED

From day one, you must begin to learn about the nuances of web
promotion. Read everything you can get your hands on. Don't just
read the hype, back it up with the opinions of others who have
reviewed the same programs before you came along. Learn from
their mistakes and successes.

As you begin to learn, you must also look to make a decision. Do
you want to step into a pre-built program that is designed to
help you to succeed, OR do you want to create a completely new
program of which you are the sole owner?

If you decide to step into a pre-designed and complete turn-key
online money-making venture, then you must select the right

If you decide to go the journey on your own, then do all of the
necessary research, planning and preparation that is needed for

PREPARE TO SUCCEED

Decide what you think you would want to do, and then figure out
how your planned site will generate a real income.

Internet old-timers know about hundreds of corporation domains
that existed with IPO millions, but did not have an actual money
plan that could sustain their business model. Most of these
companies were among the hundreds of companies that bellied up in
the 2000 dot bomb experience.

Don't blindly believe in your plan. Research others on the web
who have undertaken similar business models and see if they have
survived. Study your competitors in depth to learn what is
working for them and what did not work for them. To better
understand what has or has not worked for competitor websites,

Once you have determined your money plan, then you should
undertake the development of a business plan and a marketing
plan. Utilize professional assistance if you need to do so. While
creating your plans, make a determination as to which domain name
you think would be best, then register it along with a hosting

Once you have developed your business plan and marketing plan and
have run them through several revisions, then it will be time to
buy your domain name and to begin work with a site designer and

they are doing their work, enlist a copywriter to help you with
your site sales copy.

When your site designer and developer have your site working, you
should then undertake significant testing to make sure everything
works as planned. It is much harder to fix problems on a
operational site than it is to fix problems on a site that has
yet to be launched.

When testing is done, then you should fill in your sales copy and
then shoot for launch. Of course, you already have a marketing
plan in place, so your preparation here will be simply a matter
of putting the pieces of the puzzle into place.

You are finally ready to open for business. Don't be afraid to
spend the money to bring your dream alive. Time can replace money
in the goal of starting a profitable online business, but money
invested can shave years off of your company's growth.

When you need an auto mechanic or an air conditioning repairman,
where do you turn for help? Sure, some people turn to the yellow
pages. But most will turn to friends and family and ask if they
know of anyone who can do the work.

The best place for your business to be positioned is to be the
business on the tips of the tongues of the people asked to make
the referral.

THE 300 RULE

Preachers, funeral directors and people in a few other
professions have learned "the 300 rule" through their own
personal experience.

"The 300 rule" states that the average person knows 300 people
on a friendly level. Wedding planners tend to make reservations
for 300 guests. Funeral directors tend to need to make room for
300 mourners. You get the idea.

DOODLING WITH CIRCLES OF INFLUENCE

Imagine your circle of friends, family and acquaintances, a.k.a.
your circle of influence. Now, draw your circle of influence as
a circle on a blank piece of paper.

Next, contemplate the people in your parents` circle of
influence. Some people who know your parents also know you.
Therefore, you will share some influence with the people your
folks know. Now draw your parents` circle of influence on your
piece of paper.

Your circle and your parents` circle will intersect in one area,
although the larger majority of the two circles will not
intersect. If you are like most people, the two circles on your
page at this point looks very similar to the MasterCard logo.

Now imagine drawing a page full of intersecting circles, each
circle representing the circle of influence of the people who
are within your own circle of influence. Imagine trying to
encapsulate an accurate rendering of where your circle and the
circle of your friends will actually intersect.

Some circles will share a large area of space, while others will
barely cover one another.

Actually, you can only imagine at this point what your piece of
paper will look like. The actual layout of the circles imagined
in this analogy is simply too overwhelming for the mind to
comprehend.

THE BIG PICTURE

300 multiplied by 300 equals 90,000. By using the analogy of
doodles in the previous section, the average person can actually
network with up to 90,000 people! Even factoring in the overlap,
one can still probably network with 50,000 people through their
own circle of influence!

Simply amazing, isn`t it?

HERE IS THE SECRET TO YOUR SUCCESS

There are 300 people on this planet whom you have a reasonable
amount of influence. Take advantage of this fact. Make darn sure

When your friend is asked to make a referral, they will
recommend you.

PASSIVE VERSUS ACTIVE REFERRAL NETWORKING

When people ask your friends for a referral and your friend
mentions your business, that is passive referral networking.

Active referral networking is when you can get your friends go
directly to their friends and say "Hey, I have a friend who just
started a business. If you are in need of what he offers or you
know someone who will need his services, would you please give
my friend a call or make the referral to his business?"

If you can get even a portion of the people in your own circle
of influence to actively refer your business, then you have
built the foundation to build an advertising campaign even more
effective than the average local television advertising campaign.

Think about that for a moment.
