Grow With Goals
There are many amazing tools for building our businesses – Facebook, Twitter, blogs, traffic, leads, marketing campaigns, websites, and unfailing team support. But we sometimes forget our most powerful tool – our mind.
Our road to success begins with the fundamental question, “Where are we going?”
Having a purpose, or knowing your ‘why’ is the starting point of all achievement. The lack of a major purpose is the stumbling block for 98 out of every 100 people simply because they never defined their goals and started towards them. Without clearly defined goals, we lose focus and obstacles soon appear.
Write Down Your Goals
If your life’s worth living, it’s worth writing down.
Your goal must be more than a wish, it must be a burning desire. Only by finding your own burning desire will you achieve success. Everyone wants the better things in life, money, recognition, respect, and friends. BUT, most people never go beyond just wishing for them.
If you study the people who have achieved lasting success, you will find that each one had a definite major purpose. Each had a plan for reaching that goal and committed their thoughts and efforts toward it. Most importantly, they told someone else about their goal.
If you know what you want from life, pursue it with a passionate, continuous effort and sound planning. This way you will awaken the purpose, the why, that is often hidden deep inside you. You will be on a mission.
When we know where we’re going, it allows us to be aware of the opportunities around us and inspires us to have the courage to act on them. People are judged not by what they begin, but by what they finish.
Millions of people are struggling to get by on the salaries they earn. This is because their highest aim is only to be in their current job. They are drowning in mediocrity because of the limitations they placed in their own minds. This may have happened to some of us. Open your mind, step out of your comfort zone and realize that you are worthy of your dreams and visions. Success is a worthy goal.
Choose a Pacesetter
Pick someone who is “making it happen” and make up your mind not only to catch up to that person, but to pass them by. The point is not to win a contest but to get where you want to go.
Many people never recognize the difference between wishing and believing. Setting realistic goals and committing yourself to them will allow you to accomplish things you once only wished for. Having goals and a purpose is critical to success. When you put something in writing you commit to it.
Ralph Waldo Emerson made a profound statement that we can apply to ourselves:
Whatever course you decide upon, there is always someone to tell you that you are wrong, there are always difficulties arising which tempt you to believe that your critics are right. To map out a course of action and to follow it to an end requires courage.
Emerson was so right, it absolutely takes courage to put your dreams & goals in writing and tell someone about it. Goals are worthless unless we are held accountable for our commitments. For many, making our goals known would mean setting ourselves up for criticism and embarrassment if we were to fail. But we all know that the only failure in life is not trying.
The outstanding leaders in every walk of life recognize the power of their own minds – the power to set a goal and take action. The word “impossible” has no meaning to them. Leaders turn all unpleasant circumstances into opportunities for positive action. Everything is possible and leaders do whatever is necessary to succeed.
