Unfortunately that seems to be the practice most people follow. They put
up a website and never update or add to it again…
One of the most common questions I get from business professionals is
how often should they update their content online. The answer to this question
is not going to be the same for everyone, but the theory behind it is the same.
The answer to how often you should update or add to your content online is
“as much as possible as long as the content is good”. Why is this?
Google is completely focused on giving a good experience to their users.
They are constantly looking for the most fresh, relevant content possible
to serve in their search results. They also want the content to be user
friendly and helpful, and this is often determined by how many other people
link back to the content from other websites.
Google is also constantly focusing their efforts to make sure that the
content they rank is for keywords that the user has input. This means that
you need to be regularly adding new helpful content to your website using
the proper keywords in order to increase your chance of having more ranked
pages. Also, the more authoritative content that 1 site has on a particular
topic, the more likely that website will get ranked high for that subject.
In other words, you can’t just write something once or twice and expect
your website to stay ranked over the long-term. That just doesn’t happen.
One of the most important things to remember as a business professional is
that you need to invest your money and/or time in getting content written
for your site on a regular basis. The more content you develop, the more of
a snowball you are creating in terms of traffic accumulation long-term.
Remember that the content you produce now is likely to always be online,
and so you are adding to it every time you put an article or blog post out
there. It is money and time well invested, because you can continue to
attract new visitors to your site through this content for years to come.
So what do you do if you’re not a good writer or you don’t have time? You
hire a ghostwriter or online freelance writer who is qualified and
experienced at writing online content. There are many good ones out there
which you can find through a quick Google search. In fact, the ones you
find are probably the same ones following the tips I’ve shared with you here!
